Costumes seem to have this power to mix the colours of daydreams and realities together. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of wearing a costume for the first time. It gives you a sense of power that you can momentarily convince everyone into thinking that you are something you aren’t really- and only you know the secret of normalcy which fades back once you shimmy yourself out of the costume.
In these pictures, I’m wearing an angel costume designed and hand-made by my sister, Therese Yen. The feathers of the angel ‘wings’ are attached along the deep V-neck of the dress, which is also decorated with beaded stones. The costume is mostly sheer and made from organza that we had at home already, and is delicately embroidered with flowers and crystals.
